독일의 철학자 발터 벤야민은 19세기 도시의 상품 세계와 백화점 등 주마등처럼 펼쳐지는 이미지를 판타스마고리아로 규정했다. 이는 도시가 실제 현실이 아닌, 자본주의적 욕망이 환영처럼 투사되는 초현실적인 공간이라는 뜻이다.

도시의 밤은 잠 못든 영혼들의 꿈이 투영되는 욕망의 스크린이다.

그리고 새벽이 오면, 그 꿈의 연기는 쇼윈도 너머 마네킹의 시선 끝에 잠시 머문 후 밤의 소란을 뒤로 하고 다시 지하 세계로 흘러들어간다.

This implies that the city is not actual reality, but a surreal space where capitalist desires are projected like illusions.

The night in the city is a screen of desire where the dreams of sleepless souls are projected.

And when dawn comes, the smoke of those dreams lingers briefly at the edge of the gaze of mannequins beyond shop windows, then leaves the commotion of the night behind and flows back into the underground world.
